THE LAND OF GREAT MOUNTAIN FELLS

Welcome to the Kilpisjärvi village page.

Kilpisjärvi is located in Enontekiö municipality in northwestern Finland. It is on the border of Sweden and Norway high above the Arctic Circle. Distance to the Arctic Ocean is less than 50 kilometers. The village is almost 500 meters above the sea level. The word Kilpisjärvi is both the name of the lake and the village.

The commanding features in the landscape are the majestic Saana fell and the vast expanse of the Kilpisjärvi Lake. On the other side of the lake lies Sweden. This travel destination is far beyond anything Finland has to offer scenery-wise. All of the over 1000 meter high peaks are found in the region.
